Polynomials and Art
For this project I had to choose an image to serve as the starting point of the process. With a transparent sheet of plastic paper we traced curved lines within the image onto a graph drawn on the sheet. There curves were the polynomials. The math part of this project consisted of finding the x-intercepts, or zeros, of each polynomial. With the lines that we drew on the transparency we then had to create our own unique image.
This project for me was one of the most fulfilling of the year. I struggled a lot with learning the content initially but did my best to pay all of my attention in class. I put in extra hours to make sure that I understood and knew what I was doing. I would go into Effi's classroom during my third free period and spent a lot of time making sure that my math was correct and that everything was in order. The hardest part was the long process of completing math problems and double checking to make sure that it was accurate. Through all of the grueling math work and checking, double checking, triple checking of my work I completed the project and was honestly proud and excited about what I turned in. A few weeks later Effi called me into her classroom and told me that I was her only Junior student who got 100% on the project. This is an incredible accomplishment for me and I loved watching my hard work pay off.

What am I most proud of?
So far this year in Algebra I have struggled quite a bit. The first half of the first semester I was never sure of what I was doing both in homework assignments and tests. What I am most proud of as of yet in this class is the second half of my semester exam, a 100 point test. When we first were told about this test I thought hah! There is no chance of me passing this test. That is honestly what I thought.
I went into powerschool and saw what grade I had in this class, not good. I decided that i really wanted to work hard and do my best to at least pass the exam. So over that next week i made sure to take detailed notes and try to make sense of it all by looking them over and practicing them on my own time. I practiced the review that was given to me in class over and over again. I spent and hour and half with a tutor, which was when I learned and mastered most of the content. On the day of the exam I actually felt good about it, which is a very unfamiliar feeling for me in a math class.
I ended up getting a B on this test which is a grade that I am extremely proud of even if it isn't an A. I worked really hard on not letting this test get the best of my grade this semester. I am extremely proud of the work that I put into this test because not only did I get a good grade, I also can say that I actually know what to do and how to do it. Through this semester exam I overcame the feeling of failure. At one point I wanted to just give up and fail algebra this semester because again, I thought that there would be no way to cram all the content.
So, for this next upcoming semester I know that if I just put a little extra time and effort into understanding what goes on in class I can finish this year with not only a passing grade but a good grade.
